1933 Trip to Italy

In 1933 my grandfather took his family to Italy to visit his wife Eva’s father. Her father had been a successful fruit vendor in the United States but through a series of complicated family events he ended up back in Italy on the farm in Bore.

I have not stabilized the film my grandfather shot, wanting to retain the original qualities, so be prepared for that. My mother used to complain about his shooting “technique”. I think he was just excited to be living his life the way he was-he couldn’t help it!

The itinerary, as written on the film boxes, is:
Leaving NYC – the Azores – Shoreline Naples (misty )- Nice-at Farm(Bore, Italy) – Feast Day-Gulio Milking Cow – At Milan Cathedral – At Fidenza Shopping – Eva & Dad – At Farm – Parma-Cemetary.

Crisis Actors: Asking For Seconds

For critique only, social and political. Author asserts rights.Screen Shot 2016-03-22 at 1.18.10 PM.png

As more  is revealed about the scripted, manufactured and staged situations presented to to the public as reality, new perspectives on old films stand out.

John Frankenheimer’s  1966 film, Seconds, when viewed through the current-day lens of crisis acting, reveals what Frankenheimer must known to be the reality beneath the veneer of news media presentation.

Arthur Hamilton, a bank executive, has been called by an old friend thought to be dead.

In Grand Central Station, a note with an address is given to Arthur by a mysterious stranger.

DSCN0409.jpg

Grand central is important, being a temple for Mercury who is god of commerce, thieves, trickery and guides souls to the underworld. This is where the devil gives his calling card, in essence, to Hamilton.

His stop is Scarsdale, the same town Linda Eastman/Epstein McCartney came from. Yoko Ono’s family moved there when she was a college student.

Many think Paul McCartney is a replacement.

Is this town a “Company” town, Like Newtown ,Connecticut? Were the Beatles orchestrated by Lee Eastman (born Epstein)?

His friend calls later that evening and convinces him to go to the address.

He is told to use the name “Wilson.”

Brian Wilson saw this movie and it completely freaked him out, along with the (unsubstantiated) claim by Phil Spector that he helped produce the film.

Phil Spector was on the plane with the Beatles as they arrived for the first time in the U.S.

Note the 666 on his home phone.

This is also about a man selling his soul.

DSCN0443.jpg

The first address leads him to another, a meat packing plant. This is cover for the disposal of human bodies and a reference to how commonplace and macabre the whole process is.

From there he is driven in the back of a meat truck to the rear entrance of a building in which he takes an elevator up.

Screen Shot 2016-03-24 at 11.49.17 AM.png

Welcomed to an office with some drugged tea he is coerced, in a somnambulant state, to participate in a mock rape scene. It is filmed and later to be used as blackmail.

Very reminiscent of the Rosemary’s baby impregnation scene.

Wakes up alone in the office and goes off down the hallway looking for answers. He find a  classroom style office with men at the desks but absolutely nothing going on. These are actually previous “Reborns” who want to change their reality again, but must seek out a fresh candidate, like him.

DSCN0449.jpg

Sent back down to the original office he is told how his death will be faked (with a real cadaver) and how The Company will take care of his estate.

Screen Shot 2016-03-24 at 12.05.45 PM.png

He refuses and is shown the film of mock rape.

Screen Shot 2016-03-24 at 12.12.50 PM.png

Then is convinced to sign (the same as any rock star would do, to live “Reborn”) and goes through extensive plastic surgery  and physical rehabilitation.

DSCN0466.jpg

It is interesting to note that the main character and the two Company men who induct him, as actors were blacklisted and this was the one of the first films to feature them since the McCarthy  hearings.

CIA men, actors, portraying communists, just like the crisis actors of today, portraying victims, then activists for gun control or anti-terrorism.

A complete background as mildly successful artist living in Malibu is given to him

The actor who plays the regression therapist, Khigh Dhiegh, has completely New World Order views.

He lives in  a neighborhood of other Reborns. He meets a woman on the beach, unbeknownst to him sent there as an actress to ease him in to his new life.

She takes him to a wild archaic revival party dedicated to the god Pan (Satan).

He cannot handle his life when it becomes clear that it is as controlled as ever.

DSCN0500.jpg

Other Company men and Reborns keep “Wilson ” in line.

DSCN0503.jpg

They send him to the same classroom office he first came across to find a new candidate.DSCN0504.jpg

When he refuses he is then used as a “cadaver” for a new candidate.

Post Script: The Picasso painting on the wall of the office where he is drugged is called “Mother and Child” that has the father removed from the painting, just as Arthur will be removed from his wife and daughter.

It is also interesting that he chooses to become an artist in regression therapy, and the style he acquires is semi-representational.

Lily Wells, Botanical Drawings

I’ve forgotten exactly how these came into the possession of my family. Both my mother and father were biology students in college (my father taught biology and chemistry) and grandfather studied art in Pennsylvania where Lily Wells is from…

There is very little biographical information on Lily and it appears there are seven or so sketchbooks in the possession of The University of Pennsylvania:

“Lily Wells was a member of the Naturalists Field Club of the University of Pennsylvania who painted the various flora of the northeastern and mid-Atlantic United States. This collection comprises seven sketchbooks of her botanical watercolors, plus one bound volume of seven individual watercolor plates.”

In any case these are wonderful drawings and paintings and I hate to have them unseen, so here they are.

Most of these drawings were done around 1888:Lily Wells 113.jpgLily Wells 114.jpg

Homeland Security Helicopter Burlington Vermont

“Just because you’re [not] paranoid doesn’t mean they aren’t after you.”
Joseph Heller

This Homeland Security helicopter hovers above the Old North End of Burlington, Vermont for hours on end, from mid-morning until early afternoon on a regular basis.

DSCN0346.jpg

This is a small town with the only real crime being the nationwide epidemic of opiate abuse (resulting in numerous bank and convenience store robberies, etc.).

Homeland Security is simply the unchecked law arm of the cooperate banks who are the ones who bring in the drugs in the first place, along with their lackeys in the (ex) military.(Academi, Blackwater, Xe and so on…)

Counter Narcotics, yeah, right.

Switzerland Part 2, 1928

Continuation of my grandfather’s 1928 trip to Europe…

brienz2 785.jpg

After about twenty minutes to stretch our legs we were off for Grimsel Pass and then down toward Interlaken. This part of the ride was quite high too and in one place the road tunneled under a drift of snow for at least two hundred feet and the cut on either side was very long too.

At Meringen we took a train for Brienz where the boat crossed to Interlaken. At Meringen we were told that we would not be able to cross the lake by boat because it would be gone. Consequently we were slow to ask about asking at Brienz about the boat.

George, however, did ask and we got off the train just as it started, in fact I threw one of my bags off and jumped with the other. We rushed for the boat and as George rushed by me he tripped and fell but before he could pick himself up the boat sounded its whistle and started off without us. We finally got George dusted off a little and found he was not even scratched although there was a little three-cornered tear in his right pants leg.

The hotel porters came up and stood off a little and wanted to know if anyone was hurt. For once they did not mention hotels although both the last train and the last boat had gone.

I asked one fellow who had offered us assistance where his hotel was and what price he could give us a room for and we took up his offer as the hotel was near the water and only about five minutes walk away. He put our bags on top of a cart with four beer kegs and off we went with him and the cart in the lead.

brienz2 786.jpg

The hotel was right on the water’s edge and the lake looked so inviting that I couldn’t resist asking about having a swim. I soon had the required bathing tights on and was in the lovely cool water of Lake Brienz. There were a few swans about and George looked on the scene as he does not know how to swim.

I felt like a new man after the hot, dusty ride over the passes, from the refreshing swim and most as soon as we were out the supper was ready and I made a hole in it right away,in fact I ate enough for two people. The little out-door beer garden was prettily surrounded with greens and trees here and there. After eating we strolled along the waterfront and watched the lights across the lake and on the mountains, and listened to the roar of waterfalls in the distance.

With the stars overhead and little breeze from off the lake we soon were all over the disappointment of missing the boat and had decided to spend all the next day (Sunday) right in the town and then we went back to the hotel and to bed.

brienz hotel bill 527.jpg

Sunday, July 15th.
We arose about eight and had the regulation continental breakfast of rolls, butter, jam and cocoa. Then we wrote on our diaries and I wrote some postal cards and two letters.

After dinner we were told of a series of 13 waterfalls, one after the other, which is just across the lake and we found there was a boat leaving at five and returning about seven twenty. However, just before time to start a storm came up which lasted all the time we would have been gone from the hotel, so we decided not to go. However, we could hear the falls from our room even though they were more than three kilometers away.

When the storm let up we took a stroll through the town and took a few pictures on George’s camera. The Swiss houses are all very pretty and we noticed that they, as wall as the English people, love to have flowers about and in their houses.

brienz2 787.jpg

Near the station we saw a shop with lots of wood carving in it and I decided to have an eagle with spread wings cut from larch wood I believe. Before we left I had made several other purchases including a maid carrying two buckets of milk.

The mistress of the shop said that the men whom we saw the day before carrying large wooden buckets on their backs were carrying milk in these and that they make two trips a day with the milk down the steep mountainsides to the villages. After supper we listened to the Edison and then retired.

brienz2 788.jpg

Monday, July 16th.
We arose early and took the seven fifteen boat from Brienz to Interlaken, crossed the town by train and then crossed to Spiez on the other lake by boat.

While crossing the Interlaken we saw the snow capped peak of Jungfrau in the morning sunlight. At 10.56 we left Spiez by train for Montreux where we arrived about 14 o’ clock.

We had lunch and then took the 15.50 boat for Geneva where we arrived about 20.30. Of all the Swiss lakes Geneva is the largest I think has the ugliest mounton surroundings. One naturally is looking for high mountains in Switzerland but Lake Geneva has no range of high peaks anywhere near it.

DSCN0282.jpg

However the shoreline was interesting with its array of beautiful English Poplar trees and pretty houses. We reached Geneva about sundown and found a hotel which had hot and cold running water and soon after retired. Forgot to mention that George and I looked up his Geneva friends but they were out.

Tuesday, July 17th.
We arose about eight and after breakfast I went down to the station and found the time of trains to Pisa and Rome and then got some Swiss money to pay our bill with and some Italian money to use when we arrived there. While I did these things and called up the Y.M.C.A. office George called on his friends whom he had gotten in touch with in the meantime.
